Dear Friends of OLG,

November is slipping by very quickly as we make our way to the wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  I would like to take this opportunity to share some things that have happened recently at school.

As you know, Mr. Ron Peterman , Shannon Peterman’s and Stephanie Pennelly’s dad died last Thursday morning after a long fight with cancer.  There was a beautiful memorial service for Ron in our church last Sunday, which was a meaningful tribute to the Peterman family.  Thank you to all those OLG families who attended.  Thank you, especially, to the parents of our 3rd graders who have been very supportive to Shannon through this difficult time.  Hopefully, Shannon will return to her class soon.  The judge did not grant her a bereavement leave from the trial on which she is a juror.  I will keep you posted as to when she will be returning to the classroom.

We continue to ask for prayers for Dr. Kathy Carmona, who has been working with us in Resource for nine years. Kathy is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy in preparation for surgery.  We miss Kathy very much as she is such a wonderfully cheerful presence on our staff.  We look forward to welcoming her back in January.

I would also like to announce some fundraising updates.  Our Harvest Festival made $8789.64 after expenses were taken into account.  Thank you to Dena Pruitt and her hard working committee chairpersons for this successful event.  Gift Wrap earned $5851.07 for the school also.  Aramark is continuing to do very well, although the Raiders are not really cooperating. We have three games to go before the end of the season.  Thank you to Rudy Reyna and all our Raider workers!  We are also grateful to Myhanh Nguyen, a Kinder parent who brought in $225 for the Silk-Tek Salon Fundraiser.  Our delicious tamale drive (homemade by Reyna Inguanzo, Cecilia Rodriguez, Rachael Roberts and Pat Pena) is in full swing, with the deadline for orders being Friday, Nov. 21. Our raffle is also happening and the drawing for the winner will take place at our Christmas Program on December 18.

Today I am visiting Mrs. Hughes, our 8th graders, and some of our 8th grade parents at CYO Camp in beautiful Occidental.  They have a week of outdoor education and leadership activities planned which will enrich them spiritually, emotionally, and academically.  Please keep them in your prayers this week.

Blessings on you and your families,

Linda Parini
